This site was set up to present research findings on the use of plants in medical practice in Britain. Hilary Miflin is a trained botanist, herbalist, aromatherapist, gardener and distiller and during the last two decades she has created and maintained a beautiful herb garden in La Haute Savoie, France. From these plants she has prepared fine tinctures, infusions, essential oils and floral waters for use by herbalists and aromatherapists in the UK. Her book ‘The Green Fuse – our deep connection with the power of plants’ is to be published on April 28th 2021.

Prior to creating the garden, she worked as Records Officer and gardener at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London and during this time became interested in the divergence between herbalism and allopathic (conventional) western medicine and especially the contribution of plants to the latter system. Research at the Wellcome Library on suitable plants to grow in her garden lead her to the British Pharmacopoeias. Results of this research are on this site.
